Google Ads

Automrktr integrates with Google Ads to let you create, manage, and optimize your paid search campaigns alongside your organic social content — all from one dashboard.

Connecting Google Ads

1. Go to Settings → Integrations (or Ads in the sidebar, then click Connect Google Ads).

2. Click Connect Google Ads.

3. Sign in with the Google account that manages your Google Ads account.

4. Grant Automrktr access to view and manage your campaigns.

5. Select the Google Ads Customer ID you want to manage (if you manage multiple accounts).

Once connected, your existing Google Ads campaigns will appear in Ads → Google Ads.

Campaign Types

Automrktr supports three Google Ads campaign types:

TypeDescriptionBest For
SearchText ads shown in Google search resultsCapturing high-intent buyers
DisplayImage/banner ads on the Google Display NetworkBrand awareness and retargeting
ShoppingProduct listing ads with images and pricesE-commerce

Creating a Google Ads Campaign

1. Go to Ads in the sidebar.

2. Click New Campaign.

3. Fill in:

- Campaign Name

- Campaign Type (Search, Display, or Shopping)

- Daily Budget — the maximum you're willing to spend per day

- Start Date — when the campaign goes live

- End Date — optional; leave blank to run indefinitely

4. Click Create Campaign.

Creating Ad Variants

Each campaign contains ad variants — the actual ads that users see. Automrktr supports A/B testing across multiple variants to find the best performer.

Creating a Variant

1. Inside a campaign, click New Variant (or Add Ad).

2. Fill in:

- Headline 1, 2, 3 — up to 30 characters each

- Description 1, 2 — up to 90 characters each

- Final URL — where the ad sends users when clicked

3. Optionally click Generate with AI to let Automrktr write headlines and descriptions based on your campaign goal.

4. Save the variant.

Control vs. Test Variants

  • One variant should be marked as the Control — this is your baseline.
  • All other variants are Test variants — alternatives to compare against the control.
  • Automrktr tracks performance for each variant separately.

A/B Testing

Automrktr automatically manages ad variant A/B testing:

1. Create at least 2 variants (1 control + 1 or more test variants).

2. Google Ads rotates the variants and shows each to different users.

3. Automrktr tracks impressions, clicks, conversions, and cost per variant.

4. When one variant reaches statistical significance, Automrktr flags it as the winner.

5. Click Apply Winner to pause all other variants and keep only the winner running.

A/B Test Metrics

MetricDescription
ImpressionsHow many times the ad was shown
ClicksHow many times it was clicked
ConversionsHow many clicks resulted in a goal completion
CostTotal spend on this variant
CTRClick-through rate (Clicks ÷ Impressions)
CPCCost per click
CPACost per acquisition (Cost ÷ Conversions)

Syncing Campaign Metrics

Automrktr syncs your Google Ads performance data daily. To force an immediate sync:

1. Open a campaign.

2. Click Sync Now.

3. Automrktr pulls the latest metrics from Google Ads API and updates your dashboard.

Budget Management

  • Set your daily budget per campaign. Google may spend up to 2× the daily budget on high-traffic days but averages out over the month.
  • Change the daily budget anytime by editing the campaign.
  • Automrktr alerts you when spend is nearing your budget limit.

Automated Optimizations

Automrktr can automatically apply optimizations to improve your Google Ads performance:

  • Pause underperforming variants — Variants with CTR below a threshold are paused.
  • Increase budget for winners — Campaigns performing above your CPA target can have budgets automatically increased.
  • Keyword bid adjustments — Search campaigns can have bids adjusted based on conversion data.

These adjustments appear in the Adjustments Log for transparency. Every automated change is logged with the reason, the before/after values, and can be manually reverted.

Go to Ads → Adjustments to review the history.

Viewing Ad Performance

The Ads dashboard shows:

  • Aggregate metrics across all campaigns (total impressions, clicks, conversions, spend)
  • Campaign-by-campaign breakdown
  • Variant-level performance within each campaign
  • Trend charts over time (7d, 30d, 90d)
  • Attribution breakdown — which Google Ads conversions match pixel events on your website

Conversion Tracking with Google Ads

For conversion tracking to work in Automrktr:

1. Install the Automrktr Conversion Pixel on your website. See [Conversion Tracking](./08-conversion-tracking.md).

2. Tag your Google Ads landing page URLs with UTM parameters: utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=[campaign_name].

3. Automrktr matches pixel events to ad clicks using the UTM parameters.

4. Conversions appear in Analytics → Attribution.

Disconnecting Google Ads

1. Go to Settings → Integrations.

2. Find Google Ads and click Disconnect.

3. Your campaign data and history are retained in Automrktr but will no longer sync with Google.
